How to obtain Chilean citizenship
through childbirth
If neither parent holds Chilean citizenship, the child still automatically receives citizenship upon birth.
Following the child's birth, parents can apply for a temporary residence permit in Chile.
After residing in the country for at least one year with a temporary residence permit, parents become eligible to apply for permanent residence status.
Once parents secure documents for permanent residence in Chile, they can apply for citizenship. To qualify, they must have resided in the country for a minimum of three years.
